Baroness Fiona Twycross

Baroness (Fiona) Twycross was appointed to the House of Lords in November 2022. She is Education Spokesperson in the Lords and a Labour Whip.

Alongside her work in the House of Lords, Fiona is London’s first Deputy Mayor for Fire and Resilience and was a London Assembly Member from 2012 – 2020. As Chair of the London Resilience Forum, Fiona led the response to COVID in London on behalf of the Mayor.

Fiona has also worked for the health charity Diabetes UK as Head of Campaigns and Volunteer Development and Head of Governance and Stakeholder Engagement. She previously worked for the Labour Party in a variety of roles both nationally and in regional offices around the UK.

As a teenager, Fiona had encephalitis as a complication of mumps and made a full recovery going on to study at Edinburgh University. She has a doctorate in Scandinavian Literature.
